Late season fruits such as pears, grapes and figs are beginning to ripen.

Marietta picked these figs, some of which had brown blemishes on the skin. She explained that this was due to rain during the final stage of ripening. Figs are sensitive to water at this stage. She peeled the skin and the fig beneath was undamaged and delicious.
Netting covers this fig tree to prevent birds from eating the ripening fruit.
This is a small, very hot peppers that Marietta grows in pots. As it matures it changes to various shades of reds and oranges.

This is a photo taken of Marietta and her young daughter on the ship to America in 1963. At age 27, Marietta left Italy with her two children, expecting a third, to meet her husband who had been living and working in America.
As a young man, her father came to America to find work to support his family who remained in Italy. This was a common practice in the early 1900's. He found camaraderie with other Italian men who were also here working by joining the local Italian band.
Of course, we didin't leave empty-handed...
