Grape identification: Email question from Bronte of Columbia, Maryland

I was wondering if you might be able to help me identify what type of grape my family brought to NYC. They came from Castelvetrano in Sicily around 1910. We have a fig (and its many offspring) that they brought with them, but the story was always that they also brought a grape cutting and it died. I would be curious to know if other people from the same region also brought grapes or if there are a few types of grapes that you think this might likely be. Thanks for any help you can offer.
